The First John Deere
Industrial Wheel Tractor
of the “Modern Era”…
Now to be built as a highly detailed
1:16 Scale Toy by Ertl!
The Industrial
“40” Utility Tractor
In 1954, for the first time, the
annual full-line John Deere
Product Catalog was entitled
Modern Farming. Prior to that, since the 1930s, the title
had been Better Farming. This was the first hint that things were
changing under the guidance of soon-to-be Deere & Company President,
William A. Hewitt. Then, in December 1954, Deere’s first Modern Era Industrial Tractors
were introduced in the 20-page sales brochure shown above. It’s noteworthy that even the back cover of
the brochure reinforces the theme of “Modern Equipment.”
The Industrial “40” Utility Toy will be produced in the most limited number ever for a toy offered by
the Two-Cylinder Club. It will look just like the one on the cover of the brochure (but without the
mower, of course); painted Industrial Yellow, and with that gorgeous wrap-around grille. But wait, there’s
something else… In each case of six (6) toys, there will be one toy painted Highway Orange rather than
Industrial Yellow. Person purchasing an entire case will be assured of getting one (1) Highway Orange
and five (5) Industrial Yellow units. Those purchasing less than a case will receive their toy(s) in the order
in which they are unpacked from case lots and shipped; no exceptions.
And finally, there’s one more surprise…
Packed with every toy will be a full-size color reprint of the 20-page Sales Brochure shown above!
Demand for this toy, representing the first-ever Modern Era John Deere Industrial Wheel Tractor, is
expected to far exceed production. Estimated delivery from Ertl is April/May 2010. Please place your
orders soon to avoid being disappointed.
Toys are $69.95 each, plus $12.00 UPS shipping to U.S. locations. Case lot price (six [6] toys; one [1]
Highway Orange, five [5] Industrial Yellow) is $419.70, plus $20.00 shipping. (Canada and foreign
